The others, all on the road too, were Hawick United, Gala Hotspur and Jedburgh and Ancrum Reivers, respectively winning 1-0 at Berwick’s Highfields United, 4-3 at South Lanarkshire’s Law Community and 2-1 at East Lothian’s Longniddry Villa.

Joining Rhymers and Highfields in making round-one exits were Greenlaw, knocked out 5-2 at home to South Lanarkshire’s Carluke Thistle.

Kieran Hume, Zak Todd and Lucas Nairn scored for Coldstream; Max Brydon with a hat-trick for Earlston; Andrew Coyle for Hawick United; Josh McGurk at the double, Josh Lamb and Lee Bellamy for Hotspur; and Jamie Ferguson and Scott Buchanan for Reivers.

Round two is on Saturday, November 21, and it takes Hotspur to holders Duns Amateurs, Hawick Legion or Berwick Town to Gala Fairydean Rovers Amateurs, Kelso Thistle to Hawick United, Coldstream to Edinburgh’s Lothian Athletic, Eyemouth United Amateurs to East Lothian’s Pencaitland, Reivers to St Boswells, Selkirk Victoria to Symington Tinto, near Biggar, and Carluke to Tweeddale Rovers.

Six league fixtures were also played on Saturday, three in each of the association’s two divisions.

Defending A division champions and table-toppers Duns dropped their first points of the season, drawing 1-1 at home to Leithen Rovers, with Shane Macgregor netting for the hosts and Bailey Simmons for their visitors.

The weekend’s other top-flight games yielded home wins by 5-4 for Tweeddale against Chirnside United and 2-1 for Eyemouth versus Stow.

Those results leave the Dingers seven points clear of Fairydean’s ammies at the top of their table, on 28 points from ten fixtures. Fairydean are on 21 points from ten matches and third-placed Kelso on 18 from eight.

A division down, Selkirk won by 6-1 at Berwick Town, Hawick Waverley by 3-1 at Hawick Legion and Tweedmouth Amateurs by 1-0 hosting Langholm Legion.
