3-2 loss at home to Brechin City takes Gala Fairydean Rovers’ tally of defeats this Scottish Lowland Football League East season into double figures

Gala Fairydean Rovers were edged out 3-2 at home to Brechin City on Saturday, taking their tally of defeats this Scottish Lowland Football League East season into double figures.

Lewis Hall gave the Borderers a fifth-minute lead at their Netherdale Stadium home ground in Galashiels and Che Reilly got them back on level terms on 53 minutes but a Darren Watson goal on 66, following earlier efforts past home No 1 Reece Murray by Brad McKay on 14 and Curtis Main on 17, earned the third-placed Angus outfit all three points.

That tenth loss of this term leaves interim manager Steven Noble’s hosts as they were in the table, in 13th place, now on seven points from 13 fixtures, ahead of a trip to Edinburgh this coming Saturday to take on ninth-placed Civil Service Strollers, with kick-off at Christie Gillies Park at 3pm.

Also starting for Rovers, captained by Danny Galbraith, as they took on gaffer Andy Kirk’s former Scottish Highland Football League club for the first time ever were Liam Fagan, Greg Macpherson, McKenzye Campbell, Daniel Martins, Jared Lyons, Zack Tomany and Noah Simpson, with James Clare, Lennon Connolly, Arnault Kasa, Ross Lamb, Lewis McCulloch, Daniel Strickland and Joe Wylie as substitutes.

Fairydean will head up the A7 to the capital at the weekend hoping to end a six-game winless streak against Strollers.

Their last victory against the Edinburgh outfit was back in November 2022, by 2-1 at home, and since then they’ve drawn with them once, by 2-2 at home in December 2024, and lost their other five meetings – by 2-1 in November 2023 and 2-0 in October 2025 at home and 7-0 in January 2024, 4-2 nine months later and 2-1 in March this year away.
