Borders village music festival is a fundraising success
Gowkfest – Gordon’s annual music festival – returned last month, with 339 people through the gate at the village Community Sports Field for more than eight hours of live music, food, drink and a chance to try the ever-popular bucking bronco.
The event raised £4,700 for Gordon Common Good, the local charity that exists for the benefit of everyone in the village.

Gates opened at 2pm, and the six-act stage line-up kicked off with Denzil Tom, followed by Kim Brown, Dani Kirkman and the Jockuleles ukulele band. Dean Jones and Sparky & the Choir Boys completed the evening.
Away from the stage, the bucking bronco proved the surprise of the day, with a steady queue of challengers of all ages.

Borders Competitions, the prize-draw company, brought a matt-black Lamborghini that drew a crowd of its own all afternoon.
A walk-around magician worked the picnic rugs, face painting kept the youngest occupied and the tombola and 50/50 draw did their usual brisk trade.
Food and bar outlets ran throughout the day, keeping everyone fed and dehydrated.
Gowkfest is organised and run by volunteers and paid for by local businesses.
The sponsor board at the gate carried more than 20 names this year, and the committee expressed their gratitude to every one of them, as well as the traders and performers, and everyone who bought a ticket, ran a stall, put up a marquee or stayed behind on Sunday morning to take it all down again.
