Carr, who comes from Berwick and last season rode for the Bandits, was expected to miss much of the current season, but his rehabilitation has been successful and he is now on the look-out for a team place in either National or Premier Leagues.

Carr, who had a spin at Newcastle on Sunday, said: “Things were looking quite positive from January or February but to finally get the all clear to start racing again was a massive boost.

“Everyone had predicted it would be 12 months before I could think about racing again so to cut that down to around eight months to the day has been great because it means I can hopefully get something out of this season now.

“The crash at Sheffield was a bad one and whilst I honestly don’t think it will affect me mentally no one wants to get hurt. What I have done, though, is think long and hard about what I want out of the sport.

“Right now, I’d say I’m in a much better place mentally. My head is in a good place and the time out has only made me more determined to get back racing.”
