Hawick racehorse trainer Ewan Whillans celebrating win at 15-2 at Perth

15-2 outsider Inappropriate notched up a second win for Hawick racehorse trainer Ewan Whillans, and sixth all together, over two miles at Perth on Monday.

Irish jockey Sean Quinlan rode the five-year-old chestnut gelding to victory in the 3.20pm Auto Services Perth 24-Hour Recovery Handicap Hurdle by two and a half lengths from Sean Bowen on 7-4 favourite Castleheath, trained in County Westmeath by Ciaran Murphy.

Earning £5,281, that was Inappropriate’s second win in just over a month following one on the flat at Musselburgh at the end of July with Hawick’s Greg Fairley in the saddle, sandwiching a second-to-last placing at the East Lothian course at the end of August.

Three of Inappropriate’s half-dozen wins have been over hurdles, including this week’s, and the other three on the flat and Whillans is impressed by that versatility, saying: “It’s good to see him bounce back after a moderate run on the flat the other day.

“We’ll probably keep him on the go while the ground is nice.

“It’s always good to have a dual-purpose horse or two in the yard.”

This week’s win was Whillans’ first since one with Sure and Stedfast over a mile and five furlongs at Musselburgh back on Friday, August 7, also with Fairley riding.
