Success for Borders clubs at Scottish Field Archery Championships
Scottish Borders archers enjoyed a hugely successful weekend at the Scottish Field Archery Championships, bringing home a haul of gold and silver medals.
Kelso-based club Roe Deer Field Archers celebrated a gold double courtesy of two of its youngest members.

Alfie Smail, a pupil at Kelso High School, found himself promoted to the Junior Section (13-17 years) after missing out on Cub eligibility by less than a week. Facing shooting distances of up to 50 yards – further than he had ever competed at before – Alfie rose to the challenge to take gold in his Junior Male Bowhunter Unlimited category. Fellow Kelso High pupil Darrie Page also struck gold, winning the Cub Female Bowhunter Unlimited category and setting a new Scottish record in the process.
Galashiels club Redgauntlet Field Archers was also among the medals. Keith Allen claimed gold in the Senior Male Freestyle Recurve category, while Roe Deer Field Archer Rhys Shingler took silver in the Adult Male Bowhunters Unlimited category.
The results cap an excellent weekend for field archery in the Borders, with both Roe Deer Field Archers and Redgauntlet Field Archers continuing to develop talent at every level, from Cub competitors through to adult competition.
Roe Deer and Redgauntlet Field Archers welcomes new members, children and adults. Both clubs run indoor sessions on Thursday evenings, from 7 to 9pm, Roe Deer at Ednam Village Hall and Redgauntlet at Langlee Community Hall.
