Charity awards funding to support Borders walking groups
Walking Scotland, the charity that helps makes walking and wheeling part of everyday life, has awarded over £23,000 to local walking groups in Southern Scotland to help more people enjoy the benefits of regular walking and wheeling with others.
The funding comes from the charity’s Walking Network Fund, awarded to members of their Walking Network across Scotland. These grants support the delivery of Health Walks – free, accessible group walks that help people walk and wheel more.

Borders Wheels is a charity that provides community transport across the Borders. It has been awarded a grant that will allow it to continue offering Indoor Walking classes, a 30-minute walking session set to music and including Strength and Balance movements.
Denise Carmichael, CEO, said: "With support and funding from Walking Scotland, it was possible to offer a continuation of an established class. This free class was very well attended, and the participants are delighted it's coming back through this funding."
This year, £350,000 has been awarded to 30 Walking Network members across Scotland.
Laura White, Walking Network Manager at Walking Scotland, said, “These grants mean that more people can enjoy the benefits of walking and wheeling in a safe, welcoming environment.
“Regular walking and wheeling improve our physical health, support our wellbeing and help us feel more connected to our communities.”
