Travel Lightly comes home to the Borders

A luxury travel specialist, shortlisted for a UK National award, has returned to the Scottish Borders, bringing her growing business, Travel Lightly, back to a place she has long considered home.

Mags Fenner, founder of Travel Lightly, has relocated to the Borders after previously living in the region, describing the move as “very much a homecoming.”

The relocation comes during a remarkable period for the business.

In the space of just a few weeks, Travel Lightly secured its ABTA renewal, was accepted into the Travel Trade Gazette’s Black Book; an exclusive programme for leading luxury travel advisors, with places awarded through an invitation and application process; and has also been shortlisted for a prestigious national Luxury Travel Award in the Responsible Travel category.

Founded in 2023, Travel Lightly has built a reputation for creating tailor-made holidays, specialising in luxury, responsible and experiential travel.

The independent agency works with clients across the UK, designing everything from once-in-a-lifetime safaris and multi-generational family adventures to rail journeys, cruises and bespoke escapes.

Mags brings a wealth of international experience to the business.

She has lived and worked across Europe, Africa, Australasia and the Americas, travelled in more than 40 countries and built a career centred on helping people discover the world thoughtfully and responsibly.

Now based in the Scottish Borders, she says she is delighted to once again be calling the region home.

“The last month or so has been an absolute whirlwind,” said Mags. “Alongside moving home to the Borders, Travel Lightly celebrated a series of milestones that I’m incredibly proud of. Being accepted into TTG’s Black Book and then learning we’d been shortlisted for a national award felt like a wonderful endorsement of everything the business stands for.

“I’ve always loved the Borders. I lived here before and always hoped I’d return one day. There’s something very special about the sense of community, the beautiful landscapes and the quality of life. Coming back feels less like moving house and more like coming home. Travel has given me opportunities to live and work around the world and experience incredible cultures.

“I’m passionate about helping others create meaningful journeys of their own, whether that’s a luxury honeymoon, a dream safari, a family adventure or a once-in-a-lifetime cruise. I’m excited to be building the next chapter of Travel Lightly from here in the Scottish Borders.”

Although now based locally, Travel Lightly continues to serve clients throughout the UK, combining personal service with expert knowledge and full ABTA and ATOL financial protection for package holidays. As the business continues to grow, Mags is looking forward to becoming an active part of the Borders business community while continuing to showcase the region as a wonderful destination in its own right.
