Repowering of wind farm near Peebles is on the agenda

An initial planning bid was submitted to Scottish Borders Council this week for the repowering of a wind farm once it reaches the end of its operational life.

Bowbeat Wind Farm, located in the Moorfoot Hills near Peebles and Innerleithen, has operated since 2003 but is expected to reach the end of its life in 2030.

The proposed repowering would take place after 2030, following the decommissioning of the existing wind farm.

Now a Proposal of Application Notice (Pan) has been submitted to the local authority, which needs to respond within 21 days.

The proposal is for the installation of up to nine wind turbines with a maximum tip height of up to 230m, alongside associated ancillary infrastructure, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Consultees include Peebles, Innerleithen, Eddleston, Walkerburn and Moorfoot community councils, ward councillors and Calum Kerr MSP and David Mundell MP.
