Hawick Business Centre is on the look-out for a new occupant

Hawick Business Centre is back on the market for a new occupant.

The complex in Oliver Place entered a new era earlier year when it returned to ownership of Scottish Borders Council following the conclusion of its current lease with South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE).

The £3 million centre opened amid much fanfare in April 2024 providing modern, flexible workspaces, meeting rooms, and a digital lab with VR and pod-casting facilities.

SOSE had leased the building since its opening, delivering a range of support for entrepreneurs and businesses.

This arrangement has been funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which concluded at the end of March.

The Hawick Business Centre was created as part of an inspiring regeneration project, funded by the Scottish Government and SBC, which transformed a previously neglected group of buildings into state-of-the-art, grade A office space in the centre of Hawick.

But concerns were raised that the centre had not lived up to its promise amid claims it was a “white elephant” due to under-utilisation.

Now SBC is actively marketing the building for commercial lease, with the goal of supporting local businesses and continuing the strong legacy of enterprise and regeneration within the Hawick community.

The space could suit a single organisation or multiple businesses looking for a well-connected base in the town centre.

A spokesperson for SBC said: “If your business is considering a new premises, or if you know an organisation that my be interested, please spread the word by sharing this opportunity.”
