Blues halt Peebles’ winning beginning to new Arnold Clark National League Division 2 rugby season
Peebles’ winning beginning to the new Arnold Clark National League Division 2 rugby season was halted by a 27-19 defeat away to Kirkcaldy on Saturday.
Having started out with a win by 13-12 away to Howe of Fife at the end of August and followed that up with another by 39-26 hosting Edinburgh’s Stewart’s Melville a week later, head coach Graeme Paterson’s Pees were hoping to maintain that momentum upon their return to the far side of the Firth of Forth at the weekend, but that’s not the way it ended up working out.

Instead, they found themselves on the wrong end of a result for the first time this term, leaving them fifth in the table, on nine points from three fixtures, ahead of a visit from Gordonians this coming Saturday, with kick-off at the Gytes against the Aberdonians at 3pm.
That will be the two teams’ first meeting since a 31-20 National 2 victory for Peebles on the road at Aberdeen’s Countesswells playing fields back in November 2023.
Next up after that is a trip to second-from-bottom Dundee seven days later and that’s a 3pm start as well.
The Borderers’ try-scorers at Kirkcaldy’s Beveridge Park were scrum-half Max Maciver, lock Rory Bell and right-winger Tom Weir, with fly-half Liam Irvine adding two conversions.
Touching down at the other end of the pitch for head coach Quintan Sanft’s hosts were outside-centre Timmy Kennedy at the double, No 8 Steven Milne and blindside flanker David Foster, with Kennedy and fly-half Ethan Murray adding a conversion apiece and the latter also kicking a penalty.
