Clean sweep propels Jed arrowmen to national finals

Darts players from the Borders have done proud service to the British Legion network by reaching the national finals of one of its regular competitions.

Jedburgh Legion recently staged the event’s Edinburgh, Lothian and Borders qualifier, featuring a host of local players, as well as arrowmen from Cockenzie, Prestonpans, and a fairly wide surrounding area.

The sharpshooters were aiming to reach the national finals in Banchory – and the Borders will have a strong presence up in Aberdeenshire in mid-May, after making a clean sweep on the day.

Jedburgh players featured among the winners of all three disciplines, with the Jed Legion ‘B’ squad winning the four-man team event.

Tournament director Mick Ferguson teamed up with John Abbott of Sprouston to win the pairs, while Mick topped a great day for the Jedburgh darts fraternity by winning the singles contest against Stuart Thomson, of Kelso.

Mick said it had been an excellent occasion, which everyone appeared to enjoy, while a good bit of banter and a social gathering among Legion friends had been the main order of the day.

The British Legion has also invested heavily over recent years in comradeship through sport and leisure, by organising tournaments in pool, darts, dominoes, bridge, bowls and golf.
