It’s a particularly special time for the 25-year-old, from Lauder, as it will be his first time representing Great Britain.

The event is tomorrow (Saturday) in Gdynia in northern Poland, postponed from March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The opportunity for Adam to qualify was opened up when some entrants pulled out to take part in the London Marathon, while he impressed the selection committee by performing very well in a series of races.

Much as he loves track and cross-country, Adam, who runs full time with a club in Manchester, reckoned road-running was where his career lay, as he enjoys its “natural” feel.

Very proud to have his first GB vest, the American university graduate and former Scottish cross coutnry champion was also confident about Saturday.

“I’ll definitely keep the reins on and not get too carried away with the event, with it being a different level, but training has gone really well and I’m in good condition,” he said.
