One-day international debut ahead for Selkirk cricketer Maisie Maceira

Selkirk cricketer Maisie Maceira has been called up by Scotland’s women’s national team for three one-day games starting this Friday.

That selection for the Scots’ forthcoming series versus the Netherlands puts the 20-year-old in the frame for a one-day international debut almost three months on from being given her first senior cap.

Glasgow’s Clydesdale ground hosts the series’ opener this Friday ahead of further games in Stirling on Sunday and Tuesday, all 11am starts. Entry is free of charge.

Maceira, currently playing for Edinburgh’s Carlton club but previously with Gala and her home-town’s Philiphaugh outfit, is one of the 16 players named in head coach Craig Wallace’s squad.

The others, four of them uncapped, are Ammy Baldie, Sarah Bryce, Darcey Carter, Maryam Faisal, Gabriella Fontenla, Katherine Fraser, Abtaha Maqsood, Megan McColl, Rebecca McCrossan, Charlotte Nevard, Niamh Robertson-Jack, Nayma Sheikh, Pippa Sproul and Ellen and Isabella Watson.

Wallace said: “This series is an outstanding opportunity for us to play one-day international cricket and host more international matches in Scotland.

“Our players all really enjoy the ODI format and I’m looking forward to seeing them put in some strong performances in fixtures that I think really suit us.

“Everyone selected is deserving of their places, having taken lots of runs and wickets across the summer.

“It’s great to give our players more exposure to international cricket as we continue preparing for the important competition cycles that lie ahead.”
