Nostalgia: Gala seven triumph at 1970 Netherdale tournament
Ordinarily we would be counting down to the annual Galashiels rugby sevens tournament, but ongoing restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus mean the Netherdale event, set to expand to festival proportions this year, has been cancelled.
We’ve delved through our archives to share this photo of happier times, though. It shows the victorious hosts at 1970’s tournament after beating Llanelli in the final.
Back from left are Harry Carruthers, John Brown, Mrs A Tod, Peter Brown and Kenneth Oliver, with, front, Drew Gill, Duncan Paterson and Arthur Brown.
Mrs Tod presented the Border Memorial Trophy to winning captain Paterson.
