IN PICTURES: Braw Lads’ Gathering declaration nights through the years

Galashiels Braw Lads’ Gathering, due to take place in the last week in June, is always one of the first to name its chosen young man and woman to lead its rideouts and ceremonies, and the 2020 braw lad and braw lass would have been unveiled to hundreds of townsfolk from the burgh chambers tomorrow night.

Though there’ll be no such gathering or announcement due to coronavirus forcing the festival’s cancellation, the town will still enjoy, in a small way, what should have been declaration night, thanks to Galashiels Instrumental Band, when members will play two verses of Braw Lads, from their doorsteps at 8pm tomorrow... in the meantime here’s a look back at photos from declaration night photos found in our archive.
