Farmers can sign up for flood help

MSP Christine Grahame has urged flood-hit local farmers to apply to a fund to help with floodbank restoration schemes.

The £1M Scottish Government fund will remain open to applications until the end of February, with applicants subject to an approval process, before funding will be made available in March.

Ms Grahame said: “I would urge all farmers who have seen their floodbanks damaged to apply to the Flood Restoration Scheme before the end of February.

“The £1M funding package is a welcome boost to many flood-hit farmers in my constituency and across Scotland following the recent spate of horrendous weather.”

Following confirmation that their application has been approved farmers will have until June 30th 2016 to complete the repairs.

She added: “I understand that many farmers will want to start making repairs now but it is a requirement of State Aid schemes that necessary work cannot be done without grants receiving prior approval.

“However, for those who need to press on with floodbank repairs now, it is worth noting that where like-for-like repairs are being carried out, prior approval from SEPA is not required.”
