Borders blooms with success

An award-winning garden design, install and horticulture practice operating in the Scottish Borders is celebrating a remarkable 2026 show season after securing two medals at major UK horticultural events within the space of just a few weeks.

Wet Your Plants Ltd, which expanded into the Scottish Borders following founder Lucy Morton's relocation to the area, was awarded a Gold Medal at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2026 and a Silver Gilt Medal at Scone Palace Garden Fair 2026 for two show gardens co-designed by Lucy Morton ACIHort and Adrian Burrows.

The first success came at Scone Palace Garden Fair, where the team exhibited Pulse, a garden inspired by the rhythms that shape our lives. Drawing on the visual language of a heartbeat and musical phrasing, the garden explored the ways passion, emotion and memory resonate throughout our lives, earning the team a Silver Gilt Medal and receiving a warm response from visitors and judges alike.

Just weeks later, the team travelled to BBC Gardeners' World Live at Birmingham's NEC, where their Beautiful Borders garden, Stories of Memory, was awarded a Gold Medal.

Inspired by conversations with people living with dementia and their families, Stories of Memory explored the importance of familiar spaces, sensory experiences and human connection. Featuring a reimagined Anderson shelter and carefully selected planting, the garden reflected the deeply personal ways in which memories are formed, recalled and cherished.

Lucy Morton said: “To receive recognition for both gardens has been incredibly special. Although the gardens explored very different themes, both were rooted in storytelling and human experience. To see them resonate so strongly with judges and visitors alike has been hugely rewarding.”

Originally founded in the West Midlands, Wet Your Plants Ltd expanded into the Scottish Borders following Lucy's move to Scotland and now operates across both regions, providing garden design, installation and horticultural services.

Alongside running the business, Lucy regularly delivers guest lectures and careers talks at universities, colleges and industry events, encouraging the next generation to consider careers in horticulture.

These award-winning projects were made possible through the support of a number of suppliers and sponsors, including Viridis Plants, Thistle Timber and Building Supplies, Breedon Special Aggregates and RG Plants, alongside the wider Wet Your Plants team and volunteers from Birmingham Metropolitan College Horticulture department.

Lucy added: “These awards represent an enormous team effort. We're incredibly grateful to our staff, volunteers, suppliers, sponsors, clients, friends and family for helping make these projects possible.”

Following the success of the 2026 show season, Wet Your Plants Ltd is now beginning work on future show garden projects alongside its ongoing work across Scotland and the Midlands.
