Unlock prison’s past and solve a mysterious case

Visitors to Jedburgh Castle Jail & Museum will soon be able to experience the historic attraction in two completely new ways – with the launch of the Scottish Borders’ first escape room of its kind alongside an immersive new guided tour.

Launching this Saturday, August 1, ‘Unsolved: The Malcolm Munro Case’ and ‘Unlocked: The Hidden Cell Tour’ offer visitors the chance to solve a historic mystery, uncover hidden stories and explore rarely seen areas of one of Scotland's most ambitious Victorian prisons.

‘Unsolved: The Malcolm Munro Case’ is a new immersive escape room where teams have 50 minutes to investigate the mysterious death of a local woman in 1884.

Searching for clues, solving puzzles and piecing together the evidence, visitors must work together to uncover the truth before time runs out.

Set within the atmospheric surroundings of Jedburgh Castle Jail, the experience combines teamwork, problem-solving and storytelling in a unique historic setting.

For those fascinated by history, ‘Unlocked: The Hidden Cell Tour’ offers exclusive access to parts of the jail that have remained closed to visitors for generations.

Led by a costumed guide, the immersive tour explores hidden areas of the prison, including the atmospheric Male Prisoners’ Cell Block, bringing to life the stories of prisoners, governors, reformers and the local community connected to the jail.

The experience offers visitors a rare opportunity to discover the hidden history behind one of the Borders' most iconic heritage attractions.

Martha Burns Findlay, Head of Culture, Live Borders, said: “These new experiences represent an exciting new chapter for Jedburgh Castle Jail & Museum.

“Whether visitors are looking to solve a mystery with family and friends or explore hidden parts of the jail for the first time, we're delighted to offer two completely new ways to experience one of the Scottish Borders’ most important historic attractions.

“The response so far has been incredibly positive and we can't wait to welcome our first visitors through the doors on August 1. We also wish to thank our funders, who have made this possible.”
