The Australian rider is back home in Broxburn after being released from hospital and issued with painkillers on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite initial fears that he had fractured his pelvis, x-rays results show that there are no breaks or cracks.

He remains exceedingly stiff and sore nonetheless and also sustained concussion in the incident.

His new and expensive crash helmet has been wrecked, although it clearly did the job it was designed to do.

Wethers flew off his bike and over the protective fence after clipping the back wheel of Monarchs rider Aaron Fox, who was also injured in the incident.

Both riders were treated at the scene by paramedics before a county ambulance arrived.

Fox was discharged from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary late on Tuesday night after x-rays found no broken bones, although the Californian suffered concussion and will require a period of rest.

A Berwick Badnits spokesperson said: “It was an horrendous crash, and I think both lads were lucky to come away with what they did. We wish Matty well as he takes a well-earned rest in the hope his recovery is swift and complete.”
