Berwick, with Edinburgh’s Sam Masters in as a guest for Ben Barker, put up a spirited performance at Glasgow on Sunday before going down by only four points.

Masters won two races, as did Kevin Doolan, Claus Vissing and Thomas Jorgensen, before he was withdrawn from the meeting after a heat 15 fall.

On a warm Easter afternoon, Bandits didn’t get off to the best of starts as the Tigers raced to four successive 4-2’s to give them a 16-8 lead.

Masters won his first race in five, before a Jorgensen - Doolan 2-4 in seven saw the visitors close the gap to six.

The meeting produced some good racing in front of a big crowd, and Glasgow were always in front, but Berwick didn’t let them get too far in front.

After the home side took a 4-2, courtesy of Aaron Summers and Kozza Smith in nine, Bandits replied in kind through Masters and Matic Voldrih in 11.

This was sandwiched between two wins for Doolan in 10 and 12, and with Vissing winning in 13 Bandits remained in contention at 42-36.

Bandits hopes were ended in 14 when Luke Crang was excluded from taking down Smith, and despite a Jorgensen victory in the re-run the Tigers were in an unassailable position at 45-39 going into the last race.

Heat 15 was eventually re-run three times, before Vissing and Masters took a 2-4, the Aussie being drafted in to replace Jorgensen after a spill.

All in all a creditable performance from the Bandits who must now try to get back to winning ways when they take on Edinburgh at Shielfield in the League Cup on Saturday (April 11).

They will go into the meeting with only six riders as Voldrih is away riding in his Slovenian national championships this week and will be unavailable for the visit of the Monarchs.
