Call-off decision was justified say Bandits

Berwick Speedway feel they made the right decision to make an early call-off of Saturday’s Premier League meeting against Sheffield at Shielfield.

The decision was taken at 9.30am, but later in the day it was brilliant sunshine.

Co promoter Dennis McCleary said: “With the benefit of hindsight we maybe could have run our meeting on Saturday but the rain was forecast to be on until around 2 to 3pm. As it happened it stopped around midday!

“At 9.15am the track on the first and second bends was a mess, so bad we were sinking in over the boot tops.

“With track time going to be restricted there was no way it would have been able to work on it until after the football around 5pm, much too late given the condition it was in.

“After the football track curator George Hepburn walked the track and he was still concerned about the area on the first bend.”

This weekend (Saturday and Sunday) the Bandits face Workington home and away in the League Cup.
