Rutherford smashes it in Glasgow for trust

The ex-stand-off, who also played for Heriot’s, raised £1,282 by running the Glasgow Half Marathon in October and smashing his previous personal best.

Greig, who is also one half of the Galashiels-inspired musical duo Vir Per Ovis, clocked a time of one hour, 39 minutes and 53 seconds, almost five minutes under his previous best.

Greig said: “My legs felt like jelly for the last two miles, but I am delighted I have done it and raised more than £1,000 for the Rowan Boland Trust.”

The trust’s David Boland said: “We rely on generous donations from the likes of Greig, and the money he has raised could fund around five grants to young, up-and-coming sportspeople in the Borders.

“It is a fantastic gesture from Greig and we congratulate him on his new personal best.”

Meanwhile, Borders judo player David Fotheringham has picked up a £250 cheque from the trust.

The Foulden teenager, who turned 16 on Tuesday, won a gold medal at the Scottish Championships in November and used the grant to purchase a blue judo suit in order to compete in the British Cadet Championships.

David finished second in Judo Scotland’s Grand Prix League last season and he plans to compete overseas this year.
