They’ve had to do without their annual sevens tournament for the second year running, but Selkirk Rugby Club were in seventh heaven to be able to welcome back guests for the first time in months at the weekend.

Saturday’s social event at their Philiphaugh ground had been lined up for the Saturday before, May 8, to fill the space in the calendar left by their sevens day being ruled out again by coronavirus restrictions, but it had to be put back a week because of unfavourable weather.

Better weather was duly forthcoming this time round and a marquee and gazebos were on hand in any event to provide shelter.

Club president Jim Harold said: “A huge thank-you goes to many people after a successful day at our virtual sevens including everyone who came along and made it such a great day after so many weeks and months of nothing.”

Here’s how the day went, as captured on camera by Grant Kinghorn ...
