Ex-Selkirk rugby star Lee Jones joining exodus of players from Glasgow Warriors

Former Selkirk rugby star Lee Jones is joining an exodus of players from Glasgow Warriors at the end of the month.

The ex-Scotland international confirmed his departure from Scotstoun in a message to his 7,000-plus followers on Twitter, saying: “Glasgow Warriors it’s been a pleasure.

“Thanks go to all the team-mates, friends, coaches, staff and supporters that have made the last seven years so enjoyable.

“It’s hard to sum up everything in a few words, but I feel fortunate and proud for every moment spent representing the Warriors both on and off the field.

“The fans and the people involved make Warriors the special club they are.

“Charline and I not only became part of the Warriors family but were welcomed by a city that’s become our home.

“We’re wishing everyone involved with the club, and the players leaving, all the best for the future.”

Jones, 33 at the end of this month, made 92 appearances for the Pro14 side, scoring 18 tries.

The wing is among 18 players heading for the exit at Scotstoun once the current season ends.After making 105 appearances, scoring 43 tries, for Selkirk between 2006 and 2011, Jones began his professional sporting career at Edinburgh in 2010 before heading west to join Glasgow Warriors in 2013.

The former Selkirk High School pupil was capped 10 times for Scotland between 2012 and 2017, making him the Philiphaugh club’s 13th internationalist.He also helped Selkirk win Kings of the Sevens titles in 2007 and 2008.

A spokesperson for Selkirk said: “Everyone at Philiphaugh would like to wish Lee every success in his future endeavours, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he’s next in the Borders.”
