Ex-Rhinos are still tops

One of the most popular traditions in Selkirk Rugby Club’s mini-rugby section is for the departing Selkirk Rhinos’ P7 players to go on an end-of-season tour.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 restrictions meant this year’s planned trip to the Galloway Activity Centre, situated on the banks of Loch Ken in Dumfries & Galloway, had to be cancelled.

Local company J. W. Grieve Border Gas Ltd had already agreed to sponsor special tour tops for the youngsters and these items of new kit were handed out to the players at a recent Philiphaugh training session.

“It was a shame the players had to miss out on their visit to the Galloway Centre,” said P7 coach Douglas Smith.

“So we thought it only right to let them have their new tour tops.

“We’re hopeful we might still be able to arrange some kind of trip for them later on, even though they are now at Selkirk High School, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
