Development Officer.

Craig (27) – who will play an integral role in developing and shaping the future of rugby in the town and surrounding area, alongside director of rugby Bill Noble – is well known to many associated with the club, having followed the path from Mini Maroons through to playing for Gala’s first XV.

He joins the club from a similar post at Kelso RFC, where he enjoyed four successful years.

Throughout that period, he also gained significant knowledge and experience in coaching roles for the Hungarian Women’s 7s team and at under-16 and under-19 age grade levels for Scottish Rugby.

“This is another exciting development for Gala Rugby following on from our director of rugby appointment, new senior coach set-up, recently confirmed coaching teams for Gala Wanderers (U18) and Gala Red Triangle (U16), and the announcement that all age groups, from Mini Maroons through to U18, will now fall under the banner of Gala Rugby,” said club president, Ian Dalgleish.

“The club now offers a clear development path through all age groups to senior level.

“Craig, who brings knowledge, experience and great enthusiasm to this position, will be central to our success.”

Craig, son of former Scotland international, British Lion and 1984 Grand Slam hero Peter Dods, said: “I have a huge passion for rugby and this position offers the perfect opportunity for me to work across development and performance at an exciting time for Gala Rugby.

“I’m always looking for new challenges and, although I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kelso, the time was right to make the move back to Gala.

“Youth development is key to the future of the club and, with a revised coaching structure now in place, coupled with a clear pathway for progress and development, we’re in a position to move forward with confidence, and I’m delighted to be part of that.”
