The ex-Melrose and Scotland lock, and members of his family, were at Kingston Park for a special charity Super 6 friendly game between the home side and Southern Knights.

A season’s best crowd of 5484 turned up to see the sides contest Doddie’s Club Trophy, while raising funds for his Motor Neurone Disease research foundation, My Name’5 Doddie.

Falcons won the game 57-10, with tries for the Melrose side coming from Struan Hutchison and Billy Wara. But it was the occasion, rather than the scoreline, which was most significant on the day, with Doddie presenting the silverware to the victorious Tyneside squad at the end.
