Rugby: Gala 3-18 Glasgow Hawks
The Maroons, after playing the first half into a stiff and bitterly cold wind, trailed by only three points at half time with the score at 6-3 but their hopes of harnessing the elements after the break were dashed as Hawks took control of the forward battle.
Hawks’ full back Pierre Mounal accounted for his side’s first half points with a penalty goal and then a drop goal, Gala’s only score in the first period coming from a penalty goal by David O’Hagan.

Confirmation came in the shape of a Hawks try from a driving maul by replacement prop Brendan Cullinane. Then as Gala’s game unravelled Hawks pounced for a second score, this time from a grubber kick by their Scotland under-20 cap Patrick Kelly and the swift follow-up by wing Robert Beattie, Kelly adding the conversion to seal an emphatic Cup win.
