Rallying call forJim Clarkmarshals

If you’ve ever fancied ‘getting up close’ to the action at motorsports events, without the expense, then car clubs and events the length and breadth of the United Kingdom are on the lookout for marshals.

Without these enthusiastic volunteers giving up their time, motor sport as we know it would disappear. Marshals and other volunteers are vital. There would be no rallying or racing without them.

To those outside the sport who may be daunted by the thought of becoming a volunteer in such a fast action, high adrenaline sport then have no fear. There are jobs and roles for allcomers – and no-one is thrown in at the deep end!

Berwick and District Motor Club, in conjunction with Volunteers in Motorsport, are hosting a Marshals Training evening on Wednesday, May 7, ahead of this year’s Jim Clark Rally which takes place in Berwickshire from May 30 to June 1.

It will be a fairly informal evening with something for everyone, from the most experienced to those who have never marshalled before. Proceedings are timed to get underway from 8pm for an 8.30pm start and the seminar will only last a couple of hours. A buffet will be provided!

Darren Smith, Secretary Berwick and District Motor Club, said: “We did it last year and attracted 22 men, women and teenagers. We have moved to a bigger venue this year and hope to attract more people.”

The venue for the Training Evening, starting 8pm on Wednesday, May 7, is: Marshall Meadows Hotel, Berwick, TD15 1UT (just off the A1 to the north of the town).
