The seven-year-old’s success in the feature £15,000 Mayfield Restaurant handicap chase completed a 125-1 treble for trainer Donald McCain and jockey Jason Maguire.

McCain also saddled a double for St Boswells owners Paul and Claire Rooney.

He sent off Irish point-to-point victor The Last Samuri to a convincing victory in the opening Jane Medd novices’ hurdle race.

Kruzhlinin also carried the Rooney colours to victory when landing the Flannigan Skip Hire handicap chase.

On a good afternoon for local connections, Selkirk trainer Stuart Coltherd received a rousing cheer after the success of Talkin Sence in the Graeme Todd Haulage and Friends handicap hurdle race, where the seven-strong field went a good gallop.

Bishops Heir, returning from a 20-month absence finished runner-up for Langholm handler James Ewart, who went one better in the David McLean Memorial novices’ handicap hurdle race with Civil Unrest, victorious at Musselburgh just two days earlier. Lucinda Russell recorded her first five-timer the previous day and her Milnathort stable is in great form.

Clondaw Knight – a £140,000 purchase – added to the season’s tally with a victorious chasing debut in the Ship Inn, Dalkeith, novices handicap chase, to the delight of his handler who describes him as her favourite horse.

Jim Tango was handily placed and headed the concluding George Harrow Memorial chase for Newcastle trainer Karen McLintock.
