The richest meeting on Kelso’s calendar was called off last Saturday after heavy overnight rain, but will now go ahead on Sunday.

“The unforecasted rain was so intense it didn’t have time to drain away and the Met Office forecast more through the morning so we were left with no alternative other than to abandon,” explained head groundsman Brian Meikle.

The track has since dried out and he is hopeful of ideal jumping ground on Sunday.

Managing Director, Richard Landale added: “I am incredibly grateful to the BHA, the Levy Board and particularly the Tote for enabling us to reschedule our flagship meeting and to allow Many Clouds to come to Scotland for his Grand National prep race. I am delighted that both Oliver Sherwood and owner Trevor Hemmings have confirmed that they will be in attendance also.”

Many Clouds will be taking on Unioniste, an impressive winner at Kelso’s last meeting. Indications are that the top players in the Totepool Premier Hurdle will also be returning to the Border Track although this won’t be confirmed until after going to print.

Gates open just before noon and the first race is slightly earlier, at 1.50pm.
