World champion Andy Douglas keeps on winning right to end of latest Borders Cross-Country Series

2019 World Mountain-Running Association world cup champion Andy Douglas kept up his winning ways in the latest Borders Cross-Country Series right to the end with a fifth first-placed finish at Sunday’s finale at Hawick.

That 6km senior race was part of a concluding presentation round and doesn’t count towards the competition’s standings but Douglas’s four prior wins were enough to earn him overall victory.

The 39-year-old, representing Inverclyde Athletics Club, notched up victories at Galashiels in February, Gorebridge in Midlothian and Paxton in January and Dunbar in November, with victory in the series’ other two rounds, at Lauder in November and Peebles in December, going to Tom Martyn, of Edinburgh’s Hunters Bog Trotters.

Edinburgh’s Cat Wright was overall female winner after finishing as first woman at Galashiels, Gorebridge and Peebles and second at Paxton.
