Mair the merrier as Teviotdale Harriers get up for cups

Hawick Mair hosted Teviotdale Harriers’ penultimate race-day of a coronavirus-disrupted season at the weekend, their cup challenges.

The Walker family refused to be defined by their surname, opting for running at speed rather than settling for walking pace and, between them, claiming four of the seven trophies up for grabs on Saturday, May 8.

Freya Walker finished first in the under-11/under-13 girls’ race, ahead of Jessica Smith and then Chloe Walker.

Brother Alfie Walker won the U11/U13 boys’ race, ahead of Callan Michie and Robbie Drysdale.

Victory in the U15/U17 boys’ race went to Callum Renwick, with Irvine Welsh in second place and Robbie Welsh in third.

Mum Lorna Walker won the U15/U17/senior ladies’ race, crossing the line ahead of Ann Aitken and Kirsty Scott.

Ann Aitken won the female over-40s’ race, however.

Andrew Gibson won the senior men’s race, beating Rory Anderson and Greg Walker.

Greg Walker won in the men’s over-40 category, though.

The Hawick club’s last race of the season will be held on Saturday, May 22. For further details, see the club’s Facebook page.
