Jockey Jason Hart racks up wins at double for fellow Borderers Katie Scott and Ewan Whillans at Ayr
Hawick jockey Jason Hart helped Borders racehorse trainers Katie Scott and Ewan Whillans pull off first-time wins at odds of 28-1 and 9-2 respectively at Ayr today, July 20.
Selkirk trainer Scott’s victory with Cotai Starlight in the 2.30pm Dream Weddings at Western House Hotel Handicap over six furlongs was the biggest upset of the day by a sizeable margin.

Hart guided the outsider, owned by South Lanarkshire syndicate Summerstorm Bloodstock, to a first-placed finish two lengths and a quarter ahead of Lauren Young riding Summerstorms Dream for Jim Goldie’s East Renfrewshire stables.
That was the three-year-old chestnut filly’s first win at the fifth time of asking and it earned prize money of £4,187.
“It’s great to get another one in the bag for Summerstorm Bloodstock and they got the one-two with Summerstorms Dream in second place,” posted Scott.
Hart’s other win at the South Ayrshire track was in the second-last of seven races on Phantom Shadow for Hawick’s Whillans, the 4.30pm Try Racing TV for Free Now Handicap over a mile and two furlongs.
The three-year-old chestnut gelding, owned by Northamptonshire’s Jerry and Sue Wright, finished four lengths in front of Sam James on Falcon Nine for Iain Jardine’s Dumfries and Galloway yard to land a £3,664 payout.
That was also Phantom Shadow’s first win after eight previous attempts on his first outing for Whillans, having previously been trained by Wiltshire’s Harry Charlton.
Hart, on the other hand, is no stranger to winners’ enclosures, his two first-placed finishes at Ayr taking his tally to six in as many days.
They followed victories on Billy Bathgate for Whillans and Sahm Naif for Suffolk trainer James Horton at Teesside’s Redcar track the day before, Rock of England for North Yorkshire’s Paul Midgley at Hamilton Park in South Lanarkshire last Friday and Our Absent Friends for Cumbria’s Tristan Davidson at Catterick in North Yorkshire last Wednesday.
