This time, the focus was a Club Distance Challenge, with athletes given the option of completing either 15 or 30 minutes of running and recording their total distance covered.

Younger athletes were limited to the 15-minute run. In total, 20 members of the Harriers club completed the 15-minute challenge, with 16 results recorded for the 30-minute challenge.

The excellent level of participation was evident in the club rankings, with Gala Harriers placed fifth of clubs nationally in the U17 and above categories for total distance covered (134.7 Km) and a superb fourth-placed club in the U13-15 category, with 31.6 Km total distance.

In the team rankings for the 15-minute challenge, there was a brilliant second place overall for the U13 ‘A’ team, with Zico Field, Aaron Glendinning, Jessica Hendry and Poppy Lunn covering a combined 14.1 Km.

The Masters ‘A’ team of Colin Brown, Simon Adamson, Jennifer Forbes and Lindsay Dun placed fifth overall, with 15.1 Km covered.

In the team rankings for the 30-minute challenge, the ‘A’ team of Graeme Murdoch, Gary Trewartha, Kirstin Maxwell and Julia Johnstone placed third overall with 31.2 Km.

The Masters ‘A’ team of Graeme Murdoch, Gary Trewartha, Julia Johnstone and Angela Jewitt placed second overall with 29.5 Km covered.

A number of Gala Harriers featured strongly in the individual rankings, with the following athletes running superbly to place in the top 10 nationally for their respecti–ve age groups:

Fifteen-minute challenge – Zico Field seventh U13B, Jennifer Forbes second W45, David Nightingale sixth M60, Lindsay

Dun first W50, Eileen Maxwell second W55, Lisa Dalgliesh ninth W45, Carole Fortune fourth W55.

Johnstone second W45, Lizzie Macleish 10th SW, William McCulloch eighth M60, Angela Jewitt sixth W45,

Jocelyn Richard second W60, Eileen Nicol eighth W50.

Unfortunately, because of an administrative issue, Darrell Hastie’s speedy effort of 9.07 Km in 30 minutes, which would have placed him eighth overall in the national ranking, was not counted in the final results.
