Lauder pair suffer serious injuries in Knockhill crash

Both men were taken to Ninewells in Dundee following the accident which happened while they were building up to the defence of the Jock Taylor Trophy. Passenger Rob, 48, is in a serious condition with lower body paralysis and has since been moved to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth Unit. Driver Stephen, 28, has suffered several broken bones including a fractured vertebrate and bones in his hand.

A post on the Kershaw Racing team’s Facebook page stated: “We would like to thank all of the medical staff and marshals at Knockhill for their swift and excellent support, and everyone else at the circuit who helped the team.

“Thank you to everyone for their kind thoughts and wishes, we ask that you respect our privacy during these next few difficult weeks. We will keep you posted with any news as it becomes available.”

The team have confirmed that the crash was due to an electrical failure.

The pair had been taking part in the concluding rounds of the Scottish and KMSC Sidecar Championships in which they were in pole position. A strong, 15 sidecar line up were due to ride on four individual occasions over the weekend with the fourth and final outing also counting for the Jock Taylor Trophy (Scotland’s only World Sidecar Champion) for the race winner which the Borders’ duo won last year.
