FJORDHUS REIVERS II8

A punishing victory over local rivals Kelso on Saturday saw Fjordhus ladies seconds maintain their unbeaten run in the East of Scotland Premier League.

The Tweedbank outfit, who now sit eight points clear at the top of the league table, didn’t have to travel far to play the away leg of their derby clash against sixth placed Kelso at Earlston.

Both teams started hard and fast, however it wasn’t long into the game before Sophie Aitchison scored the first goal for Reivers.

Kelso worked hard in defence but experienced midfielder Laura McLean used her speed to open a gap down the left before executing a superb pass through the Kelso defence to reach Denise Fairbairn who slotted it in to the goal at the far post.

The Tweedsiders enjoyed a spell of possession but failed to capitalize and with some good defensive zoning, Reivers managed to return the play to their attacking zone. Captain Ashley Robson scored the third goal for the away team when she intercepted a loose pass and picked her spot to fire past the Kelso keeper.

Kelso continued to rally, but Jackie Wilson in the Reivers goal was ever present to thwart any opposition chances.

The next two goals came from great interplay between the visiting midfielders and forwards, in particular Sara Robson, Chloe Richardson, MacLean and Tara Aitchison who worked their way forward on two occasions to notch goals through Richardson and Sara Robson.

Reivers didn’t have it all their own way, however, the disciplined defence from Hawick trio Emma Grieve, Jenny Sharp and Lauren Grant saw great tackling and defensive skills halt the Kelso strikers.

The next goal came from a perfect pass from Emily Rogers in to Janet Jack who found McLean from an arial pass who, after beating a couple of Kelso defenders, swept the ball low and hard to the far post for Tara Aitchison to slot into the net.

Late in the game the ever present McLean went on another mazey after receiving a ball from Lauren Grant, this time scoring herself.

Sara Robson scored the eighth and final goal for the Reivers ladies, and although Kelso won a couple of penalty corners, Jackie Wilson again denied any opportunities.
