An opportunity for the 100+ players, young and old to run off some of the Christmas Pudding and Mince Pies and have fun playing 6 a-side hockey at Tweedbank.

“Every game was played in the spirit intended, with lots of enthusiasm and health competition, although there may be some ‘broken bodies’ as a result,” said Borders hockey development officer Janet Jack.

“We had a brilliant day, the weather was kind to us and everybody enjoyed the opportunity to get out in the fresh air.

“It was great to see so many people just enjoying hockey in a fun environment, from Selkirk internationalist Sarah Robertson right down to some very young members at six years of age.

“We have had some fantastic feedback and are looking to make it an Annual event.”

The day also gave the members of the club a time to remember their good friend Spencer Pitman who passed away in December as a result of a very aggressive cancer. The Lavender touch had been a great source of support through the final weeks for Spencer and his family and £300 raised on the day from entries and a raffle and BBQ was raised for this worthy cause.

The Spencer Pitman Trophy was played for and awarded to the ‘Most Sporting Team’ with the Touchline Teries (Sara, Ashley, Ellen and Brian Robson, and Malcolm, Kendra and Lauren Grant) being the worthy recipients. The prize for the best dressed team went to The Snowmen (Carrie and Julia Corcoran, Alex and Jamie Bell, Sarah Fergusson, Abbie Hogarth, Danielle Walker).

Fjordhus Reivers would like to say a huge thank you to all members of the club who helped with the event.
