Heriot’s 70-8 Selkirk

Heriot’s consolidated their place in the top two of the BT Premiership with a convincing victory at Goldenacre over struggling Selkirk.

Peter Wright’s men just could not cope with Heriot’s pace and power that quickly translated into the first of 12 tries when No.8 Struan Dewar crossed the line under the posts.

It turned into a procession for the home side and a damage limitation exercise for the visitors. Heriot’s second and third tries were scored by locks Clark Smith and Russell Nimmo, right, before full back John Semple got the bonus point try with half an hour played. In between Selkirk stand-off Rory Banks kicked the game’s only penalty in a futile attempt to turn the tide.

Semple went on to score a hat-trick, with a brace from winger Charlie Simpson and tries from Ian Wilson, Liam Steele, Gregor McNeish and a second from Nimmo.

Selkirk’s consolation try came from full-back Josh Welsh.
