Borders player Heather Hughes experienced the sensation of becoming the queen of clubs when she scored an ace at the weekend during a tournament at Jedburgh GC.

The big moment occurred in Saturday’s Championship Qualifier for ladies and gents at the Dunion Road course, with Heather playing the magic shot at the 180-yard 14th.

The competition was the John Tully Memorial and the course was booked out all day.

Heather stood on the tee, going down the shaft of a three wood, and, after she set her ball off towards the green, she knew it would be close to the pin.

Her playing partners were Kathy Chapman and Pauline Hogg.

Kathy’s ball made the green and Pauline’s had reached the rough.

As Kathy went to mark her ball, she shouted to Heather that there was a ball in the hole.

Heather has been playing golf at Jedburgh GC for 11 years and was delighted to notch up her first hole in one.

She left a bottle of gin behind the bar for the other competitors to enjoy.
