Friday night thriller sends Souters soaring

For the time being at least Selkirk are experiencing the lofty heights of a league table for the first time this season.

Having completed all six of their Booker Border League ties, and won four, the Souters now head the competition having accrued 18 points in total although Gala (15) and Melrose (14) sit close behind and still have games to play.

Selkirk signed off from their XV-aside campaign with a hard fought victory over soon to be National One rivals Jed-Forest at Riverside Park.

Ross Combe opened the scoring for the hosts, demonstrating some fancy footwork before placing the ball down by the posts, a quick conversion putting the home side seven points ahead.

Craig Cowan added another try for Jed before Selkirk began to show their potential with some quick passing ending at Darren Clapperton who provided a near-perfect chip to an oncoming Craig MacDougall, who ran in for the score. Rory Banks converted and added a penalty to bring the visitors to within two points (12-10) at the break.

Selkirk stormed into the lead after the restart with tries from Scott Hendrie and Angus Duckett, Banks converting both, however, similar scores from Jack Sudlow and Cameron Munro, one converted, levelled the scores. A further penalty for Banks put the game to bed.
