In typically overcast Scottish conditions, Kelso won the toss and elected to bat on a hard, flat pitch that looked to favour the batting side.

Marchmonts’s spearhead M. Loeffen removed in-form opener G. Davidson in the first over, getting the visitors off to a fine start.

However, young Australian, J. Takos, and T. Grindell, steadied the ship for Kelso, putting on an emphatic 50-run partnership.

The Tweedsiders looked to be on top for most of the batting innings with strong contributions from B. Grindell, D. Wilson and J. Takos at the top of the order.

Opener T. Grindell starred with the bat for Kelso, scoring 126 runs in a truly memorable innings for the young gun.

Marchmont struggled to stop his run-scoring power with shots played all around the wicket.

Kelso finished their innings on a total of 243 for the loss of just seven wickets.

Marchmont quick M. Loeffen was the only bowler to note for the away side, taking four for46 from his 10 overs.

Kelso got off to a virtuous start with the ball, removing both opening batsmen early in the innings.

S. Cessford and G. Davidson started off well, bowling consistent lines and lengths, which built pressure on the Marchmont top order and forced them to score quickly.

Kelso’s B. Grindell took full advantage of the situation, with some terrific fast bowling, taking three for 34 from nine overs.

Off-spinner C. Davidson continued his form, removing Marchmont’s middle order with figures of three for seven from just three overs.

The off-spinner has been working hard at training on not only his spin bowling but also his fielding game too.

Overall, Marchmont were bowled out for a measly 91 runs after an assertive bowling performance from the Tweedsiders.

Kelso look to continue their winning streak when they face Holy Cross away this Saturday in what should be an exciting affair.

Meanwhile, Kelso inflicted a comprehensive defeat on Gala in a friendly game on Sunday.

Gala made 121 for nine from their 30 overs, with Scott Paterson scoring 25 not out.

But Kelso’s New Zealander Mason Hughes smashed 74 to see the home side through by eight wickets.
