As the record books point out, only the Vale have gained a firm footing in the way of results as the Innerleithen outfit nestle high in the table, while Gala and Selkirk are at the opposite end of the chart.

Reflecting on the Vales current situation, club secretary Alec Currie told TheSouthern: “We have been plugging away and done well.

“There are six games left for us and I would like to think we could do something in all of them starting with this Saturday’s game against Threave Rovers.”

Involved with the Victoria Park side for 20 years, Currie added: “Personally I am not a great lover of the Lowland League.

“Indeed I just don’t like it at all and prefer the East of Scotland League.

“Although the Vale have done well I have not really been enjoying the Lowland League as you don’t get the same banter and patter than you do with East of Scotland clubs.

“I would like to see the Vale go back into the East league and get some fun and enjoyment out of football again.

“This does not mean that this will happen though. The Vale are in my blood and I just want to see the club do well.”

Vale hope to have Jim Young and Scott Gormley back in their squad.

Elsewhere Selkirk face Edinburgh City away from home while Gala Fairydean Rovers travel to meet Gretna 2008.

Talking ahead of his side’s away clash with Easthouses Lily in an East of Scotland First Division League encounter, Kelso United manager Prof Blaikie commented: “We slipped up badly in our last game against Ormiston.

“Abysmal finishing cost us a match we should have won and it was a disappointing result for us.

“I have a good squad of players but for whatever the reason we seem to struggle against the sides I know we are capable of beating but play better against the top teams.

“Easthouses are a top team and I think we will do okay against them on Saturday.”

Kelso are without suspended goalkeeper Elliot Turnbull.
