Football: Heriot Watt University 1-2 Hawick Royal Albert

A purple patch that produced two quicksilver goals in a two minute spell earned Hawick Royal Albert full points.

Talking of his sides triumph over a high ranking University outfit, Hawick manager Dean Shanks said: “It was a great result for us but we had to work hard for it.

“The guys really stuck in and responded after going a goal down by fighting back well. Although it was not a pretty performance it was enough to get us a very good win.”

Heriot Watt University were first to look dangerous when Chris Donnelly blazed wide following a jinking run in the opening exchanges.

After Josh Morris had came near to scoring at the other end, University’s Mike Connor blasted a free kick against the post.

Minutes later the woodwork denied the students of an opener for a second time when Hawick defender Ryan Stevenson hit his own bar with a header in attempting to clear.

The Albert then showed what they had to offer and after Morris had shot past the post after being set up by Stewart Crozier, Mark McEwan had a header saved by University keeper Craig Saunders following an Andy Laidlaw corner.

With 54 minutes gone Heriot Watt broke the deadlock with a well worked goal.

Max Allison emerging their marksman in polishing off a slick move that he had sparked off himself.

In the 65th minute Hawick snatched an equaliser by courtesy of an Allison mistake.

The University full back miskicked in attempting to boot away a cross from the right and the ball broke to Cameron MacFarlane who drilled home a shot.

Two minutes later the Albert struck again when Morris polished off a good passing movement by firing past Saunders for what was to be a winning goal.
