The last team to beat the Borderers, by five goals to three, were Stirling University on Saturday, October 31, and the East of Scotland Football League first division conference B’s other student side also put five past them, conceding two in reply.

Hawick’s scorer, with another brace after also scoring twice during Wednesday’s 2-2 draw away to Midlothian’s Easthouses Lily Miners’ Welfare, was Taylor Hope.

Finding the back of Hawick goalkeeper Dean Fry’s net for their visitors from Edinburgh were Russell Cairns with a hat-trick, Jackson Barker and Niall Kelly.

The hosts’ hopes of getting the better of Heriot-Watt weren’t helped by Macauley Steele being sent off by referee John Stewart, leaving his team-mates outnumbered.

That defeat leaves Royal Albert United third from bottom of conference B with three points after seven games, though they’re level on points with second-bottom Lochore Welfare.

Heriot-Watt Uni are second in the league, level on 18 points with table-toppers Luncarty though they’ve played two more games than the Perth and Kinross side.

Oakley are 10 places above them in the table in third spot, with 17 points after eight games.

Following that, they take a break from league action to visit fellow conference B team Preston Athletic in the Scottish Cup’s second preliminary round on Saturday, December 12, at 2.30pm.

Their East Lothian hosts are two places above them in the league, with six points after seven games.
