That was the biggest scoreline of the day as six first-round ties were contested, the next being four-time winners Greenlaw’s 6-1 victory away to Berwick Town.
The Dingers’ prior successes in that trophy, launched in 1976 in memory of former Greenlaw player Johnny Waddell, were in 1997, 1998, 2004, 2007, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The four other teams going through to round two are Eyemouth United Amateurs, Berwick’s Highfields United, Selkirk Victoria and Tweeddale Rovers, respectively winners by 3-2 away to Coldstream Amateurs, 4-2 hosting Chirnside United, 1-0 at home to Langholm Legion and 4-1 at St Boswells.
Eight second-round ties will be played on Saturday, February 13, and they’ll take holders Kelso Thistle to Stow, Duns to Jedburgh and Ancrum Reivers, Leithen Rovers to Earlston Rhymers, Hawick Legion to Gala Fairydean Rovers Amateurs, Eyemouth to Greenlaw, Hawick Waverley to Highfields, Gala Hotspur to Selkirk and Tweeddale to Tweedmouth Amateurs.
Four league fixtures were played on Saturday as well, two apiece in each of the association’s divisions.
Both A division matches yielded away wins, by 9-2 for Fairydean at Earlston and 1-0 for Kelso at Leithen Rovers.
Those results saw Fairydean cut the gap to Duns at the top of the A division table to six points and Kelso move up a place to third.
Second-placed Rovers are now on 21 points from ten matches, with the Dingers on 27 from nine and Thistle on 18 from eight.
A division down, Waverley edged out Tweedmouth 2-1 at home and Hawick Legion drew 2-2 hosting Hotspur.
Only one league fixture is lined up for this coming Saturday and it’s at home for B division table-toppers Langholm versus Victoria.
It’s accompanied by 11 first-round South of Scotland Amateur Cup ties featuring association sides and they take Leithen Rovers to holders Duns, Coldstream to Earlston, Waverley to Eyemouth, Carluke Thistle to Greenlaw, Berwick Town to Hawick Legion, Hawick United to Highfields, Tweedmouth to Kelso, Hotspur to Law Community, Reivers to Longniddry Villa, Chirnside to Lothian Athletic and Stow to Tweeddale.
All 12 of Saturday’s matches kick off at 2pm.
