Chirnside United Colts 4-3 Lauder: Chirnside win Sanderson Cup

Manager Pete Morrison takes charge of Chirnside United’s first team in 2014/15, but signed off as Colts manager with an extra-time Sanderson Cup win over Lauder to go with their Division C title.

Morrison’s men had never lifted the Sanderson Cup before, and it looked like the wait would continue when Lauder went ahead after three minutes thanks to a smart Steven Kerr finish from 20 yards.

But Chirnside created the better chances throughout the first half with young strikers Daniel Pattenden and Jordan Wood causing the Lauder defence all sorts of problems.

It was Pattenden who made it one-all on 22 minutes when he finished Luke Turner’s cross from six yards. Lauder went ahead for a second time when woeful defending allowed Robert Anderson’s 14-yard header to bounce into the net on 59 minutes.

But Lauder then produced their own comedy defensive moment by allowing a cross to make its way across the box to Jordan Wood, who headed in from close range on 66 minutes.

There was nothing to separate the sides in normal time, but within two minutes of extra time Chirnside substitute Sean Lackenby’s shot somehow found its way through a crowded penalty area into the bottom corner of the net.

Colts went two in front as the impressive Joe Condy flicked the ball over a defender before coolly slotting in on the stroke of half time.

However, Lauder’s Anderson scrambled in his second to make it 4-3, before a cross agonisingly evaded a series of Lauder players in the final seconds.
