Borders teenager Lewis Gillie agrees new deal with Hibernian
Borders teenager Lewis Gillie has signed a new deal with Hibernian set to extend his stay with the William Hill Premiership club to a decade.
The Galashiels 18-year-old has agreed a new two-year contract with the Edinburgh outfit set to keep him at Easter Road until 2028.

That follows on from penning his first professional deal there in summer 2024 after joining their academy at the age of ten back in 2018.
Scotland under-19 centre-back Gillie became one of Hibs’ half-dozen youngest senior players ever on his first-team debut aged 16 in January 2025, brought on as a 72nd-minute substitute for Kwon Hyeok-Kyu during their 3-0 Scottish Cup fourth-round win against then West of Scotland Football League premier division table-toppers Clydebank.
He also helped Hibs’ youngsters win the 2024-25 Club Academy Scotland Elite Youth League title and featured in their UEFA Youth League campaign last season, scoring against Kosovo’s FC 2 Korriku, as well as being loaned out to William Hill Championship outfit Arbroath later on last term, making two appearances for the Angus outfit.
Hibs head coach David Gray is glad to see the teenager commit the next two years of his future to the capital city club, saying: “Lewis fully deserves his new contract as recognition for everything he has achieved over the last few years.
“I thought he was excellent when he made his first-team debut against Clydebank in the Scottish Cup. It’s moments like that that will give Lewis a real boost and the belief that he can work his way into the first team.
“Lewis is a confident boy with a really good attitude. He is a strong, powerful defender with great potential, and I am sure that if he works hard, he will go from strength to strength over the next few years.”
Club sporting director Malky Mackay added: “We’re all delighted that Lewis has signed a new contract and it’s great to see another young player develop through our academy system.
“Lewis had his first stint in senior football last season with Arbroath in the Scottish championship and that exposure to senior football will do him a world of good.
“We’re all looking forward to watching him develop here at Hibs.”
Prior to joining Hibs’ youth set-up eight years ago, Gillie played for Musselburgh Windsor and Gala Fairydean Rovers’ academies.
Hibs’ under-19s missed out on another league title to Rangers on goal difference last time round but Gillie is hoping to help them bounce back next time round, saying: “It’s tough on us but it happens.
“It was a good season overall. It has been really great.
“Obviously going away in Europe and the team-bonding that comes with that was really good, then playing against foreign teams in just a totally different competition I thought was really useful for us.
"We can take that annoyance and frustration and then go intonext season and hopefully win the league.”
