Borders football fixtures in South Challenge Cup

Intriguing ties await several Borders football clubs in this coming season’s new-look South Challenge Cup.

Over 160 teams will be entered in the initial stages of the competition, for which they will be divided into four regions – North West, North East, South East and South West.

The local sides will be participating in the South East section and two clubs have been drawn in the first round.

Vale of the Leithen, from the Lowland League, are due to travel to Pumpherston and, if successful, they’ll be at home to Edinburgh United in round two.

Berwickshire side Coldstream, from the East of Scotland League, are away to Whitehill Welfare in round one, with a home tie against Berwickshire side Tweedmouth Rangers, also from the East of Scotland League, awaiting them in round two. The first-round ties are due to be played on September 11.

In the second-round matches – due on October 16 – Gala Fairydean Rovers travel to meet the winners of the first-round tie between Edinburgh South and Whitburn, while Gala FR’s Lowland League neighbours, Berwick Rangers, take on Broxburn Athletic at home.

East of Scotland League sides Peebles Rovers and Hawick Royal Albert United are both due to play away in round two. Peebles travel to meet the winners of Preston v Fauldhouse, while Hawick Royal Albert visit Ormiston.
